Brief Update (for now)

Hi all!  It’s Jen.  Duff gave me permission to post updates about his health status here on his blog.  I’ll be trying to check in regularly so everyone can keep track of what’s going on.  Hopefully he’ll be able to get back on here soon.

For now, just a brief update.  I’ll post a much more detailed report (hopefully soon).

The past few days have been rough.  Duff has been having more anxiety, verging on panic attacks.  His oxygen requirements have been increasing, meaning that he requires higher volumes of oxygen to maintain the correct oxygen saturation in his blood (sats).  The anxiety does not improve his oxygen requirements.

As recently as Friday, it had looked like he would be going home as early as today.  At this point, we’re not sure when he’ll be discharged.

On the up side, Duff’s getting better at recognizing when a panic attack is approaching.  He’s been working on several techniques to work through them, and has been working with the care teams to head them off rather than try to treat them from the middle.  He had some good days this past week and was able to make it down to the physical therapy (PT) gym a few times.  Considering where he was a little over a week ago, this is pretty miraculous!

Check in here regularly (or follow!) for more updates.  I will work on putting together a more complete update explaining this current hospital stay.  It’s a doozy!

Until next time…
